Using the Service


In order to use the Service, you will be required to log in by submitting your member number which was provided to you by the Medix staff, your name and e-mail address. Once you have logged in, you will be able to upload files to the Service. We take the safeguarding of your information very seriously. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure of your information we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic and administrative procedures to safeguard and secure the files you upload to the Service.   1. Data, Wearables and AI are becoming the King of Wisdom

    Data driven wearables become the norm as biometric sensing tools get people involved in managing their health and personal well-being. We see the trend in wellness wrist devices but the possibilities are increasing with medical-grade wearables taking all forms such as shirts, trousers, socks and more, embedded with technology that does not impede our life, yet is entirely focused on improving it.

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) is another revolutionary enabler as it is capturing funding support through its ability to analyse big data gathered from data sources such as these wearables along with test results, Electronic Medical Records (EMR), to find patterns, associations, insights and ultimately make predictions, based on algorithms. AI chatbots, for instance, already serve as triage for patients by answering basic health queries and assessing symptoms. AI applications are already diagnosing radiology and pathology images with a high level of accuracy. 

  2. Genetics and Personalised Medicine will help us live to 100 years

  3. Nanomedicine is on the rise with the smallest parts making a
    huge difference

    Nanobots, these little ‘robots’ that enter and repair or monitor designated parts of the body, aim to bring about medical breakthroughs at the most microscopic scale. With the evolution of ‘superbugs’ – bacteria that are immune to all available antibiotic treatments, being a major global public health concern, researchers have already developed a nanoparticle that can combat these bacteria, a solution that could help avert a crisis that was long considered unavoidable.

    As part of this nano trend, researchers are developing additional solutions, which include:
    - Improving drug delivery of existing medications.
    - Early detection and treatment of medical conditions at a molecular level for diseases such as diabetes, coronary artery disease, and biomarker measurements for cancer markers, inflammation, and other markers of importance.
    - Cell and Tissue Engineering to repair torn blood vessels and injured neurons in a non-invasive, and possibly in a pre-programmed manner, to avoid life threatening complications.

  4. Bio-Printing will enable us to grow replacement parts

    Regenerative Medicine and Bio-Printing will soon allow each of us to be able to regrow a heart, liver, lung or kidney when we need it, instead of waiting for organ donors. This is an incredible idea to comprehend, but it will become reality.

  5. Advancements in Gene Therapy and Stem Cell therapy are paving the road towards previously unthinkable treatments

Genome editing is a way of making specific changes to the DNA of a cell or organism. Enzyme cuts the DNA at a specific sequence and when this is repaired by the cell a change or ‘edit’ is made to the sequence. Genome editing can be used to add, remove, or alter DNA in the genome. This gene editing technology is paving the way for various therapeutic concepts. A recent success was seen in treating hemophilia.

  6. Robots are making healthcare expertise borderless 

    Finally, another exciting development for the future of healthcare comes in the form of robotic surgeons able to carry out remote autonomous and consistent surgical procedures, perfectly and at a fraction of the cost. Linked with AI and Augmented Reality (AR), robotic surgery will be a game changer, allowing for clearer visualisations along with greater precision through the development of mechanical arms with extended dexterity, superior to human capabilities. A specialist in New York will be able to operate remotely on a patient in Asia for example, using a computer that remotely operates the surgical robot.
